6 reasons why adventure is important in your life

Have you ever wished that you go on an adventure the same way someone you watched somewhere on the internet did? You should, because adventure is important for you.

Why are adventures important? Adventures force you to learn new things, make great memories, meet new people, eat new food, learn about different cultures, battle depression and so much more.

The following sections will elaborate more on why adventures are so much important in your life and why you have to always go on a new adventure every now and then.

But before we talk about why adventure is important for you, we need to know what are the things that can be classified as an adventure.

By definition, an adventure is an unusual or daring experience. There are many things that can fit such a definition, I’ll try to list some of what is coming to my mind right now:

  • Traveling to a new country
  • Accepting your friend’s challenges
  • Starting a business or a company
  • Skydiving
  • Bungee jumping
  • So on

Anything that is unusual for you or is a daring experience can be considered as an adventure.

With that out of the way, here are some elaborated reasons of why adventures are important for you

1 – Helps you try new things

Whenever you try something new in your life, you gain new experiences. Experience is by far one of your greatest assets in life. It will remain with you till the end of your journey.

Going out of your comfort zone is when you start to grow as a person. The more you try new things, the more you know.

We tend to learn better by trying things. One thing our schools have failed to do is to make sure that students can still remember what they learned after a year or two.

Why do we usually forget many of the things we learned at school? Because we weren’t trying things out, we were just memorizing theories but not trying these theories and putting them into practice.

For example, the only thing I can still remember and learn from till this day during my public speaking course is the moment I stood up in front of all the class and delivered a speech. I don’t remember any single word said to me by the instructor during the theory part of the class.

So the only things that I have truly learned from the course were the things that I was trying by myself.

What I am trying to say here is that trying new things will help you learn and expand your horizon, and what better way to try new things than to go on an adventure?

Our bodies are designed to resist change, so you need to force yourself to try new things or you might end up with a lot of regret later in your life.

So try new things, try them right now.

2 – Adventures creates memories

Going on adventures is a great way to make memories that will remain with you for the rest of your life.

Memories are what remains from your previous days and years of life. They remind you of who you are, they shape your identity, they define you.

When you get older, and get asked by some of your grandchildren, how was life?, your memories will decide the answer, so you better make sure that you can deliver a hell of a story for them about how awesome your life was.

Think about it this way. If you were asked right now to write a timeline of your life. What would you write?

I bet you will only mention the milestones of your life and not the daily routine that you used to go through.

Try it right now, take a piece of paper and write down the years of your life in a timeline and the major things that you have done next to each year.

If you haven’t written a lot of things next to each year, then you should consider going on into a new adventure.

3 – Battle depression with adventure

Depression is rising within a lot of new people lately. Battling depression is one of the toughest battles someone could ever go through.

Going on an adventure will help you beat depression. Adventures break the routine in your life that might be the cause of your depression. So whenever you’re battling depression, go out of your comfort zone and try new things.

4 – Meet new people

It’s always great to meet new people. Every person on earth has their own experiences, their own perspectives and so on. Meeting new people means that you’re meeting new experiences.

You learn from people and their experiences a lot so the more people you meet, the better.

Adventures are a great way to meet new people and learn about them and their backgrounds, which brings me to the next point.

Traveling around is one of the best ways to meet new people as you’ll have the privilege of meeting people that are living a totally different life than yours in some place around the world.

5 – Understand different cultures

This is very common when you’re going on a travel adventure. You’ll get to meet new people, learn about their ways of living, their experiences and so on.

Each culture has their own traditions and practices. Learning about these traditions might be an eye opener for you. You’ll get to know how people from places you’ve never lived in think, act, work and so on.

6 – Check things out on your bucket list

You have to have a bucket list. Bucket lists are great, they keep you looking forward to the future and they always remind you that there are still a lot of new great things that you can experience in life.

Here’s my suggestions of things to add to your bucket list right now.

Most of the things on your bucket list are adventures. So go for it, try your best to cross out as many rows on your bucket list as possible and keep adding new ones.

To summarize

Adventure can help you in a lot of ways, it can force you to try new things which is important for your growth as a person, it can help you battle depression, it can help you meet new people and so on. Always keep looking for new adventures.
