How many times have you had a great idea with amazing potential but ended up not pursuing it? What about the times when you found out that someone else implemented this idea and it turned out to be successful? At that moment, you feel as if someone stole a huge opportunity from you. But don’t worry! The good news is that you’ll always have other ideas. And let me tell you an extra secret: success isn’t only about ideas, it’s about determination and persistence.
You should never stop
You’ve probably heard the quote: “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour”. It’s a nice reminder that great things take time. If you want to build your success, you’ll have to do it step by step. Take PewDiePie as an example. In his early days, he had a very small audience, but he didn’t give up. He kept uploading videos every single day, and his hard work paid off. In 2013, he became the most-subscribed YouTube channel in the world.
It will eventually get easier
The first steps are always the hardest. Let’s say you decided to start a blog, and it’s your first time writing articles and sharing your thoughts. The first couple of articles will take a lot of effort. You may have a hard time articulating your ideas, and you’ll need to work so hard to build your base audience. But if you keep going, eventually things will get much easier. You’ll become a better writer and you’ll notice that the amount of effort it used to take you for one post will be reduced. All you need to do is to keep going, even if at first you see little to no results, on the long-term, the benefits will be more than you would expect.
The same thing applies to anything in your life. Imagine you decided to start running every day to stay healthy. On your first day, you might collapse even before you reach 10 minutes (happened to me). One week in, you might even start deciding of quitting. After 6 months, you’ll be able to run all day without even feeling it! With persistence, your body can adapt to anything, and so does your mind.
Success is about determination, focus and will
As a final note, keep in mind that anything is possible if you try hard enough (unless you’re trying to grow an extra leg). So the next time you try to start something, stick with it as long as you can because as Charles Bukowski once said:”If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start.”
